Noticing more scalp in photos, a wider part, or more hair in the drain? PRP (platelet-rich plasma) uses growth factors from your own blood to help weakened hair follicles grow thicker, healthier-looking hair. There’s no surgery and no foreign product, and the appointment takes about an hour.
How PRP for Hair Works
Step 1: A small blood draw
We take a small amount of blood from your arm, similar to a routine blood test.
Step 2: Separating the platelets
The blood is spun in a centrifuge, which separates the platelet-rich plasma from the rest. Platelets carry growth factors that play a role in healing and tissue repair.
Step 3: Injecting the scalp
The concentrated plasma is injected into the areas where hair is thinning, using a very fine needle. The growth factors help support follicles that have become weak, so they can produce stronger hair.
Who PRP Hair Treatment Is For
PRP works best for people in the early to moderate stages of thinning, while the follicles are still active. It’s a good option if you have:
- A widening part or thinning crown
- Hair that has become finer or more brittle
- Thinning after pregnancy, stress or hormonal changes
- Early pattern hair loss, in women or men
PRP can’t regrow hair where follicles are completely gone, such as fully bald areas. It also isn’t recommended if you have a blood or platelet disorder, take blood thinners, have an active scalp infection, are pregnant, or are being treated for cancer. We’ll review your medical history at your consultation, and we may suggest seeing your doctor first if your hair loss is sudden or patchy.
What to Expect at Your Appointment
- Consultation. We look at your scalp, talk through your hair loss history and agree on a plan.
- Blood draw and preparation. About 15 minutes while the sample is processed.
- Treatment. We can apply numbing to the scalp first. The injections take about 15 to 20 minutes.
- After. Your scalp may feel tender or look a little red for a day or two. Most people go back to their day right away.
When You’ll See Results
Hair grows slowly, so patience matters. Most people notice less shedding first, then thicker, fuller-looking hair around 3 to 6 months after starting. Results vary from person to person, and maintenance sessions help keep them.
Aftercare
- Don’t wash your hair for at least 6 to 8 hours (ideally until the next day).
- Skip hair dye, chemical treatments, saunas and intense exercise for 48 hours.
- Avoid alcohol and smoking for a day or two, as both can affect healing.
- Use gentle, sulphate-free shampoo for the first few days.

Most people start with 3 to 4 sessions about a month apart, then a maintenance session every 4 to 6 months.
When will I see results from PRP?

Does PRP hair treatment hurt?
Most people find it manageable. We can numb the scalp before the injections, and the needles are very fine. The scalp may feel tender for a day or two.
Is PRP safe?
PRP uses your own blood, so the risk of an allergic reaction is very low. Mild tenderness, redness or minor bruising at the injection sites is common and short-lived.
Who is not a good candidate for PRP?
People with blood or platelet disorders, those on blood thinners, anyone with an active scalp infection, and people who are pregnant or being treated for cancer. PRP also can’t regrow hair in areas that are completely bald.
